Planetary Health II: It’s a Bugs Life

Free entry

In the context of the exhibition Bugs & Metamorphosis, Kunsthal Aarhus invites you to an afternoon event exploring how bugs – from insects to bacteria – are not only unavoidable, but also a vital and enriching part of our lives. The focus is not on how to fight them, but on how to live with them and discover the many potentials that coexistence holds for our shared health and future.

The programme includes:
• Performance by Kirsten Olesen
• Reading from Belgian Nobel Prize winner Maurice Maeterlinck's book The Life of the Ant (1930) by translator Kirstine Ersbøll Meyhoff
• Talk on humanity’s historical relationship with bacteria by Adam Bencard, researcher at the Medical Museion
• Talk on the importance of insects for biodiversity by Joachim Offenberg, Aarhus University
• Video greeting from American researcher Rob Dunn on how we share our homes with all kinds of insects and creepy-crawlies

It’s a Bugs Life is the second event in the series Planetary Health, where Kunsthal Aarhus presents artistic and scientific perspectives on one of the pressing issues of our time: the state of nature and its significance for humans – and all the life we share the planet with. The series is produced in collaboration with the publisher A Mock Book and curator/author Jacob Lillemose.

Drinks with Campari, which originally got its red colour from scale insects, will be served at the event.

It's free to attend, but as seats are limited, registration on Billetto is required.
