Publisher of the Month

KBJ Publishing is a small publishing house and publication studio, based in Svendborg, Denmark, established in 2017, by artist and printmaker Kristian B. Johansson. KBJ works with fast publishing, making new books out of old books, focusing on material from non-fiction, found on travels. Other publications revolve around documentary photography of traces from human activity in public spaces and other conceptual works. All publications are printed and bound in small editions, at the printing studio KBJ Printing, which also includes the mobile Riso-printing workshop Kometen.

A selection of KBJ Publishing's books is currently available in Kunsthal Aarhus’ bookstore.

Kunsthal Aarhus Book Club

Kunsthal Aarhus Book Club is a new initiative focused on exploring the process of book publishing as an artistic practice and decoding the dynamics of art book publishing. We will focus on works published by smaller, independent publishers who challenge the unwritten rules, experiment with the medium and play with the content to expand our understanding of what it means to publish a book. Alongside the Kunsthal Aarhus Book Club, Kunsthal Aarhus Book Club will launch a monthly subscription solution and organize events where selected publishers present their work. This gives book club members the opportunity to engage in dialogue with the editors and gain a deeper insight into the publishers' practices.
