Kunsthal Aarhus and VoxHall have the pleasure of inviting you to a couple of special musical experiences in November. The first is with American artist Claire Rousay on the 14th of November 2024.
Claire Rousay is an American artist known for her experimental approach to music, challenging the conventions of ambient and electronic music. Her work is characterized by a careful use of everyday sounds, field recordings and drones, which she interweaves with textured layers of musical elements. She creates deeply personal and sensitive works that often explore emotions such as loneliness, nostalgia, guilt and intimacy.
Rousay is known for creating soundscapes that feel both intimate and universal. Her music is characterised by a mix of textual found sounds, such as fragments of conversations and everyday sounds, alongside musical elements such as minimalist guitar passages and mechanical vocal effects. This creates a unique aesthetic where the everyday is elevated to art.
Her latest album, sentiment, released by Thrill Jockey Records in April 2024, is one of her most personal works. Focusing on themes of isolation and longing, the album draws on her own experiences of living alone in different homes, working on the music in a private setting. She blends elements from her past as a drummer in math-rock bands and emo-rock groups with more pop-orientated structures, giving her work a sensitive balance between the raw and the poetic.
