In the artist talk, Josefina Nelimarkka will expand on her recent projects on atmospheric phenomena and present an audio experience connected to atmospheric data – bringing forth multiple ways of sensing, knowing and being present.

Josefina Nelimarkka (b. 1982) is an interdisciplinary artist working with environment questions and experientiality. In her site-sensitive works connected to weather, water, and air, she explores the natural phenomena and their perception combining artistic and scientific research. The interactive installations and technologies reveal the subtle yet partly incomprehensible and complex processes shifting between the in/visible, the ecological and the poetic. The continuous change, performative materiality and real-time data bring forth the instability of time and the sensitivity of the environment.

Josefina Nelimarkka works in Helsinki and London. She has graduated from the Royal College of Art in London and Academy of Fine Arts Helsinki. Her works have been shown in many solo and group exhibitions internationally such as Amos Rex Museum, AIL Vienna, Helsinki Art Museum, Varbergs Konsthalle, Sinne and The Finnish Institute in London. The recent projects investigate the role of clouds in climate change in collaboration with climate scientists. She participated in the UN climate conference in Dubai (2023) and presented her works at Finland’s COP28 Pavilion.
