Kunsthal Aarhus: Kunsthal Aarhus and Art Hub Copenhagen present: Adam Khalil, Thuy-Han Nguyen-Chi and Gro Sarauw

Director Jacob Fabricius and artists in residency at Art Hub Copenhagen come and talk about their work, methods, practice and themes. The first introduction of Art Hub Copenhagen in Aarhus.

It is Art Hub's desire to forge bonds across the country, make network meetings and opportunities for artists. The artists have all been elected through Open Calls and have been in the Art Hub Copenhagen Residency programme for five months.

Adam Khalil

Adam Khalil, a member of the Ojibway tribe, is an artist whose practice attempts to subvert traditional forms of image-making through humor, relation, and transgression

Adam Khalil, a member of the Ojibway tribe, is an artist whose practice attempts to subvert traditional forms of image-making through humor, relation, and transgression . Khalil is a core contributor to New Red Order and a co-founder of COUSINS Collective.

Khalil’s work has been exhibited/screened at the MoMA, Sundance Film Festival, Tate Modern, HKW, Toronto Biennial 2019 and Whitney Biennial 2019, among other institutions. Upcoming exhibitions will be held at Gasworks in London, Spike Island in Bristol, and Artists Space in NYC.

Gro Sarauw

Gro Sarauw is an artist and organiser currently based in Copenhagen

Gro Sarauw is an artist and organiser currently based in Copenhagen . Sarauw works with concepts of Spatial Justice, collective planning and artistic, critical adaptation research. Sarauw explores contemporary art as a transformative tool, often through collective projects. She ventures to claim that alternative domains can be found that hold the potential of a social territory, in which a different place of commons emerge, which supersedes the divides between North/South and global distances, across the Atlantic divide to suggest non-western linearities.

Sarauw holds an MFA from the Fine Arts program at Goldsmiths University and Architecture degrees from Bartlett School of Architecture in London and The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, School of Architecture.
In 2019, as a member of the artistic-research group The Winter Office (2016-2019), Sarauw produced two solo exhibitions in Los Angeles exploring Spatial Justice in relation to the local urban, social and environmental crisis and opened a solo show TRANSCALARat the contemporary art platform Surdez Aps in Copenhagen.

She is the co-founder of A Fond, an interdisciplinary artistic development oriented platform working with non-invasive intervention of heavy industry infrastructures (2019-). Sarauw has been chairing UKK – Organisation for Artist, Curators and Art Mediators in Denmark from 2015-21. In 2021, she is part of a strategic development project for the organisation.

Thuy-Han Nguyen-Chi

Thuy-Han Nguyen-Chi is a Berlin- and London-based artist whose practice mutates in and out of sculpture, installation, moving image and interdisciplinary research

Thuy-Han Nguyen-Chi is a Berlin- and London-based artist whose practice mutates in and out of sculpture, installation, moving image and interdisciplinary research . Her workexplores imaginations of freedom at the intersection of film-making and film theory, critical refugee studies and postcolonial studies, personal/prosthetic memory and individual/collective histories.

Nguyen-Chi studied Fine Arts at Städelschule (2010-2015) and Film at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (2017-2019). Currently, she is pursuing PhD research in Film at CREAM, the University of Westminster.

She has previously exhibited and screened her work at Atletika, Vilnius; Centro di Musica Contemporanea di Milano, Milan; Gene Siskel Film Center, Chicago; Haus, Vienna; Kunstverein Nürnberg, Nürnberg; Museum für Moderne Kunst, Frankfurt; Nottingham Contemporary, Nottingham; Portikus, Frankfurt; Sàn Art, Saigon; University of Bonn, Bonn, among other venues.
