Maria Theresa Alves works with concepts, which question social circumstances: What do we think we know, and who do we believe we are?
She examines geology, rivers, landscape stories and their dislocations, and she uses subjects such as global migration, slavery and colonialism in her analysis of the world. Maria Theresa Alves often use plants, seeds and material which we often consider as undesirable, as metaphors for global discussions.
Her artistic and scientific multidisciplinery approach illustrates how we see, experience and read landscapes and nature in urban spaces.
Maria Theresa Alves’ exhibition at Kunsthal Aarhus will consist of newly produced sculptures, drawings, plants and text works.
