Den Opalgrønne Time

PerformanceFree entry

Kunsthal Aarhus' monthly Friday work bar has changed colour to opal green. Bring friends and colleagues and meet the weekend with mouthwatering performance art at Kunsthal Aarhus.

This Friday you can experience live code-musicians Shelly Knotts and her presentation Annoying Algorithms: Or Critical Approaches to Performing with and through Algorithms. The presentation will be followed by a performance of her work Flow (2015-2016), which uses live EEG data – data about the electric activity of the brain – to disrupt her live coding performance.

In her presentation, Shelly will share observations on the ferocity of improvising with and through algorithms. She describes the synergies between the dynamics of improvisation in a musical ensembles which use network technology to exchange musical and social data, and the dynamics of online social networking which is fundamentally mediated by algorithms and interface design. This critical approach to algorithmically mediated improvised performances feeds into a live coding performance practice which acknowledges and highlights human error and failure.
