Kunsthal Aarhus initiates a discussion on artists associations, artists groups, and collective and collaborative forms. Although there is a long history of artist collectives and artist associations linked to institutions (like Kunsthal Aarhus), artistic practice has been dominated by individualised practices for the most part until recent times when collaboration has become increasingly a trend in contemporary art (in parallel to service and communications industries). The seminar focuses on the comparisons of these collective processes of creative production and asks what are the conditions for these collaborative, distributed and socialised forms of art-making today?
The seminar presents critical reflections and case studies focusing on Scandinavian context, and includes Stevphen Shukaitis (UK), Sanne Kofod Olsen, Royal Danish Academy of Arts, Copenhagen, Nanna Gro Henningsen (DK), Livia Paldi (S), Joasia Krysa (DK), including artist run project Konsthall C in Stockholm, and currently exhibited at Kunsthal Aarhus Copenhagen based artists group project Venskaber / Friendships (DK), and Sydhavn Station (DK).
