Seminar: Sound Weekend with Florian Hecker

Florian Hecker

Sarat Maharaj

Robin Mackay

On the occasion of Florian Hecker's new work Untitled (F.A.N.N.) (2013) and Sift Flow Slides (2013) commissioned by Kunsthal Aarhus for the exhibition Systemics 2, there will be a seminar with Sarat Maharaj and Robin Mackay, to explore issues around contemporary sound in relation to Florian Hecker's practice and following his performance the previous evening at Det Jyske Musikkonservatorium, Aarhus.

Robin Mackay's presentation navigates between the surface and the depths of perceptual objects - between the scientific account of the world and our everyday experience of it. Florian Hecker's experiments with psychoacoustics demonstrate that sound is the ideal medium with which to reveal the construction of perceptual objects and to instigate an art that allows us to explore objects as 'hallucinations of the real'.
